Cardamom and saffron chai & Gulgula Recipe

Golden Cloud has the perfect Cardamom and saffron chai & Gulgula recipe! Serve your guests fragrant, spicy cardamom, saffron chai tea, and tasty gulgula (Indian doughnuts). You can serve tea in style with Golden Cloud and a few other ingredients, accompanied by a delicious treat! See the recipe below.


Cardamom and Saffron Chai:

  • 2 tbsp loose tea leaves (or 4 tea bags)
  • 4 cardamom pods, crushed
  • 10-12 strands saffron
  • 500ml boiling water
  • 300-400ml milk
  • Sugar to taste


  • 250g Golden Cloud Self-Rising Flour
  • 125ml white sugar
  • 50g desiccated coconut
  • 50g crushed almonds
  • 50g sultanas
  • ½ tsp cardamon powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 125ml milk
  • Sunflower oil for deep drying


  1. Preheat oven to 180 °C.
  2. Grease a 12-cup muffin pan or line with paper cups.
  3. Whisk the oil, water and eggs together.
  4. Place the Golden Cloud® Banana Flavoured Loaf and Muffin Mix a medium sized mixing bowl.
  5. Make a well in the centre of the muffin mix and add the liquid mixture.
  6. Using a wooden spoon, stir until the ingredients are just combined. Do not over mix.
  7. Spoon the batter into the muffin pan and fill each cup ¾ full.
  8. Bake for 15 — 20 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean when inserted into the centre of the muffin.
